Before getting into the term ‘career,’ let’s look into the parts that would contribute in making an individual happy or should we say satisfied.

A good salaried job at a reputed company would make any one happy and I need not give examples for this. However, in many cases, we see that a few months into the job and their happiness starts fading away. At a later stage, it leads to a feeling of unhappiness and chronic feeling of unhappiness is what we call ‘dissatisfaction.’

A question that we require to ask ourselves is, “Do the list of points that make a job attractive, also make us happy?” If we try assimilating the points about a job that would make us happy, they would probably fall under the following categories: • Good salary • Company’s brand name • Designation

Attracted by the above features we work hard even foregoing many attractive things at that moment of time. After joining the company, everything looks rosy as most of the acts and procedures are new and the individual is in the learning phase. Once they are on to the designated job, things start taking a different turn.

At this point of time they start looking into various other factors like:- • Interest in the actual job: You may like the job but not the roles associated with it.

This could be because it may be clashing with your personality type or your value system. • Your intellectual growth: A well paid job may however, require you to perform tasks which are routine in nature. This could instill a fear of loosing your expertise and not develop new ones. • Culture of the organization: This in many cases would be different from what actually appears on the company’s website.

Always remember that a well designed website is also a means of marketing to attract good human resource. Therefore, the significant difference you find in advertisement and product would also hold good for the culture of the organization. • Time for your interests and hobbies:

Do we work to live or live to work? Today’s job scenario provides hardly any or very little bandwidth to pursue one’s hobbies or other interests. I really doubt there is, if there is any, job that gives you mental and physical freedom to pursue your interests. • Association to your close ones:

The conclusion, every individual has his/her own parameter to measure their level of satisfaction in various aspects of their job.

So you have two choices to make:

Choice 1. Sacrifice your expectations and develop interest   in what you get.

Choice 2. Select a job of your choice and get it.

Are you the one who believes that whatever comes your way is the best you can get and you are trying to develop interest in what you have? You are the one who has a dream but, have given it up and attached it with some excuse like fate, pressure … In both the above cases, this book is certainly not intended for you.

“This book is for those who believe in making dreams into reality.”

Or, trying to like what you do.”                                                                                                                                                                                                      yograj Negi
